'Grilled not fried' from Michael in Australia

Created by Michael 2 years ago
The very first time I ever ate in a restaurant was with Iris and Ken.  They had taken me out for the day, just the three of us this time.  I think we went to Bognor Regis, maybe Margate and we stopped somewhere on the way home to eat.  At Iris’s insistence I ordered a Knickerbocker glory, a huge ice cream fantasy in a large ornate glass; I’d never seen anything like it before in my life.  This was preceded by pork sausages and chips, another dish I’d never experienced before.  Ethel always served us fresh food at home, simply cooked, always delicious; I have no previous recall of me ever eating anything naughty and fried?  So my first restaurant adventure was very exciting and made that ‘forbidden’ food so doubly delicious.  Not so long after that I remember Ethel herself developing a taste for the decadent and delicate chipolata.
