'The Big Time' from Michael in Australia

The first time I ever went out in public wearing long pants (trousers) was when Iris and Ken took me to the cinema.  You had to book in advance in those days for certain films; it was the big night out and strutting along in those black long pants felt like a red carpet event for me.  We saw Rogers and Hammerstein’s glorious ‘The King and I’ and had fantastic seats.  Iris and Ken as usual looked great, in fact Iris may have been wearing groovy slacks that night, she was a woman of (ahead) of her time!  Dressing as a ‘grown up’ for the first time, I did feel a little awkward and self conscious myself, and then I really dropped the ball when the king (iconic as played by Yul Brynner) when his hand slowly slid off of a fur rug in the final scene and he passed away.  I bawled my eyes out long pants or not, I’ve just watched that very same scene and yes, I cried again.  All round it was the best night out.  Thank you Ken, thank you Iris.
